Feature-length Japanese anime directed by Satoshi Kon. Three homeless friends, runaway teen Miyuki (voice of Aya Okamoto), grieving Hana (Yoshiaki Umegaki) and middle-aged alcoholic Gin (Toru Emori), have formed a makeshift family bond that sees them through life in the dirty backstreets of Tokyo. On Christmas Eve, while foraging through a rubbish dump, they come across an abandoned newborn baby. Hana, who has always dreamed of being a mother, persuades the others to let her keep the baby overnight. The next day, using the only clue they have - a key they discovered with the baby - the trio set out on an event-filled journey to find the baby's parents, coping with their own emotional reactions along the way.
