Lost Diamond: A History of Gender Rebellion in American Baseball
Lost Diamond: A History of Gender Rebellion in American Baseball
By Ellen Lindner. Self Published.
Softcover, 20 pages, 2-Colour, 2021.
In the first issue of Lost Diamonds, Ellen Lindner investigates the facts and mythology of the start of Baseball, and how racist and sexist policies pushed people who were not white cisgender men out of the sport. Ellen traces games similar to baseball being played by indigenous people in what we know as North American before colonization, and the participation by women in similar games as early as the 1620’s.
Ellen’s first issue travels through time up until 1912, illustrating along the way, white men taking deliberate action to remove or restrict players who were not white cisgendered men from the world of baseball, and how often female-presenting people and Black players carved out space for themselves.
