Dr Kathleen Lonsdale was a pioneering scientist who worked in the field of crystallography. Born in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland she lived most of her life in England. Her scientific career spanned almost fifty years from the early 1920s to 1971.
She was also a passionate campaigner for peace and was imprisoned for her beliefs during World War Two. This experience led to work on prison reform and advocating on prisoners' behalf.
This book details that extraordinary life alongside her role as a wife and mother, something which she credited with giving her an unusual perspective. Her Quaker faith informed all aspects of her life, leading her to choose a "Christian life, lived experimentally."
