By Greer De Maglie. Self Published.
Softcover, 8 pages, 2-Colour, 2022.
Greer De Maglie’s Jerome is a six page biography of their uncle, Jerome, and how his story fits into the larger story of the AIDS epidemic in the 1980’s. Greer details the systemic failures of the U.S. government under the Regan administration, and the activists who catalyzed the care and medical breakthroughs to save the lives of those affected with HIV and AIDS.
Greer weaves the trajectory of their uncle’s life, the homophobia that kept him closeted, and the love and fury GMHC and ACT UP used to rally against government officials and pharmaceutical companies to prioritize research and medications needed for the thousands rapidly dying in the US.
