New Zealand child services placed abandoned delinquent teen Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison) with lovingly receptive farm wife/foster mom Bella Faulkner (Rima Te Wiata) and her much-less-so husband Hector (Sam Neill). After Bella's abrupt death, Ricky decided to run rather than go back into the system-and as Hec pursued, they found themselves having to stay a step ahead of misapprehending authorities.
